I have an addiction

To breakfast sandwiches.

This little fella is on a bagel with egg, cheese and bacon. Oh, and home fries – can’t go without them.

And this is Lauren!

She came along and also shares my addiction. We ordered the exact same thing and had numerous cups of coffee. I really like breakfast sandwiches, way too much. It’s okay though, I’m working on gaining weight over here!

What else have I been up to?

Really long car rides that resulted in awesome photo shoots… I thank my dearest friends. There are many more where this came from, but I won’t be showing you… They get more and more obscene 😉 I really like my baby hairs in this one, static electricity!

I’ve also been hitting up the gym, standard. Found my new favorite post workout fuel (I eat this combo while driving!)

Tuna & an apple! Really, I just dig the tuna.

I’ve been thinking lately about my goals and what I’ve accomplished with training so far. I have come so far in such a short time, a year ago I was just starting to lift (well, if 10 pound DB’s count!) I was still deep in my ED, overall was very stressed and un-happy with my life. To be completely honest, I’ve done a complete 180. I am psyched about my life, and where I am going with it. I’m just happy. Not to mention, I would have never stepped foot into a little hole in the wall breakfast place to order a sandwich made up of eggs, cheese, bacon and the dirty evil carbs bagel. Yeah, I still get the thoughts here and there – but I tell them to get the hell out because I will never go back to living that way. It isn’t even living, it’s surviving. I’m just now finally learning to live.

I’ve realized that balance truly is key to being happy. I love lifting, but it’s not all I do. I love eating whole/healthy foods, but I don’t deprive myself of breakfast sandwiches treats! You just need to listen to your body and trust yourself. Take chances and enjoy life.

As far as goals go: figure competition, I am looking at either July or October! I’ve got some time to decide but I just need to do this. As I said above, take chances. This is one of my goals and I’m going for it. Even if I fall flat on my ass, at least I can say I tried.

I’ll be back with another post soon, much to talk about!

Night loves!

What are some of your goals?

Favorite post-workout meal?!

I’m so happy for you reading this post!

I struggled with an eating disorder for years — then struggled with the aftermath of it for years — and now, lifting heavy and challenging myself day in and day out and TRUSTING my body to lift the weight I ask it to…I have never been happier. I’ve never felt so alive!

My fave post workout meal is 3oz chicken with salsa and a sweet tater!!

    • Sarah / Mar 8 2011 1:11 am

I completely agree with never feeling so alive! I could not have expressed the feeling into words better myself! I am so happy to hear that you are doing well and on an awesome path 🙂

Chicken + sweet taters = amazing! I’ll have to throw in some salsa next time!!

I love breakfast sammies!! My goal is to get stronger at the gym, I love beating a previous PR.

    • Sarah / Mar 8 2011 1:12 am

So yummy! Good luck girl 🙂 You will do it!
Breaking PR’s is such a great feeling!!

  4. april / Mar 8 2011 12:24 am

I’m so glad you’ve been able to come this far!!

Have you seen this? I think you would benefit from building for at least a year first! 🙂

    • Sarah / Mar 8 2011 1:15 am

Thanks! And thank you for the article!! I know that I might not do well or be fully ready to compete in july or october, but for me it is the experience! I mean I’m not saying YES I’m def doing it this year, but it’s a goal. I want to do it for fun, not to win 🙂

Have you thought about competing, what are your views?

      • april / Mar 8 2011 2:50 am

        No problem!

The thought did cross my mind at one time, but I decided against it. I think it’s great if your fully prepared and built a nice muscle base and like to compete- but for me, I like to compete with myself and beat my own PR’s, etc! Plus, I can stay lean without having to do crazy diets year round this way! 🙂

What if you make a goal to put on a nice 10 pounds first? And then maybe think about it? You can pick a goal that doesn’t involve a competition- at least that’s what I do!

      • Sarah / Mar 8 2011 11:17 am

Yeah, I’m def going to make the 10 pound goal first and then see where I am at! I just reallly dig competiting, I think it’s fun! I grew up doing it so it’s just part of who I am 🙂

I agree with you though, it’s good to compete with yourself for PR’s, ect! Such a great way to stay motivated and see results too!

  11. Katie / Mar 11 2011 2:20 pm

Hey! I saw that you read my I decided to stop by yours. 🙂 I like it! We are around the same age, so it’s cool to know that we both lift! I am frustrated with my deadlifts though! I am only at around 85 lbs. with 3 sets of 8. 😦 BUt, my squats are strong! 3 sets of 8 at 110 lbs. I have no idea why my DLs aren’t stronger.

    • Sarah / Mar 11 2011 6:45 pm

Woo go women who lift heavy weights! Give it time girl you will get them!! How do you start your pull, from the rack or the floor? Maybe try the opposite of what your doing, keep your abs wicked tight and just breathe… AWESOME squats!

      • Katie / Mar 12 2011 9:25 pm

I start from the floor. I dont know what you mean by starting at the rack. I will have to look up some videos to see what you mean. Actually I am at 95# now in deadlifts. But, still…I always thought that your deadlift is usually heavier than your squat?

      • Sarah / Mar 12 2011 11:40 pm

I’m gonna email you 🙂 I’ll use the email thats given on your blog about me!!

  12. Katie / Mar 11 2011 2:22 pm

Ps: I LOVE breakfast sandwiches. AND bagels! THere is this little place in the town that my boyfriend went to college called Bagel and Deli. They have TONS of bagel combos. When I was veg I would always get the sun dried tomato bagel with hummus, avocado, sprouts, tomatoes, and honey mustard. I can’t wait to go back now that I eat meat! 😀

    • Sarah / Mar 11 2011 6:46 pm

SO GOOD! That combo sounds amazing, I might have to come visit just to get that haha 😉

  13. Adi / Mar 13 2011 5:40 pm

You rock man, this was an awesome post! LOVE bagels!! esp. with peanut butter. mmmm. My favorite are usually protein shakes or Greek yogurt an granola. Quickly followed by a meal naturally.

Are you gaining weight for your competition? Do you have any tips on starting to lift heavy?

    • Sarah / Mar 13 2011 6:40 pm

Hahah thanks girl!! Mmm bagel+pb, so good!

Nope, just gaining for the heck of gaining 😉 I don’t have much muscle definition and I want more and I want to increase my lifts! Some quick tips would be watch some youtube videos for basic form on squats, deadlifts, bench, presses and then just start to mess around with stuff! Honestly, just go into the weightroom and lift… heavy! DOn’t expect to deadlift 2x your bodyweight at first, even within the first few monthes, it’s tough and takes a lot of time! Just do it 🙂
